I’ve always played Call of Duty, but I haven’t been a huge fan of team-based multiplayer. With the chaos brought to the table with the new Omnimovement system, team-based matches are carnage in Black Ops 6. Thankfully, one of my favourite features returns this year – the ability to Filter matches.
It’s actually quite easy to miss, appearing subtly under the Find a Match tab in the lobby, but, man, is this a game-changer. By filtering, you’re able to just zone in on game modes you enjoy the most – and not get tied into a random whirlwind of matches that you’re not interested in. For me, and I’m perhaps in the minority here, Free For All is all I want to play. I can just mute my mic and the lobby, sit back and just enjoy what I think is the purest multiplayer experience in the game. For you, the idea of living for a couple of seconds only to be killed may sound like torture, at least until the game is patched.
To filter a game mode, you just need to do the following:
- Head to the multiplayer lobby and click R on PC or use Square (PS5) or X (Xbox)
- This opens the edit quick play option where you can select the modes you like
Avoid Team Deathmatch in Black Ops 6
Now, for some people, the idea of going it alone may not be appealing. And, yes, there are clearly issues with spawing, which we think is as bad as Call of Duty: Ghosts – a game notorious for its brutal spawn points. With that in mind, you may want to tread carefully when going into Team Deathmatch, as there are some modes (some would say Free For All is also affected) where this issue appears to be exacerbated. I also highly recommend muting your lobby, unless you enjoy hearing people shouting and breathing heavily.
Finally, I would strongly recommend checking out the Black Ops 6 campaign this year. When I first started playing Call of Duty, I would jump straight into the single-player mode, which at the time felt fresh. Black Ops 2 and the original Call of Duty; Modern Warfare in particular really stand out as being the strongest experiences I’ve had with the games. After some mediocre entries, this year’s single-player does throw a couple of new ideas into the mix, and also opts for more sandbox-style environments, similar to some of the game areas in God of War: Ragnarok.
