Future Square Enix Games Will Release on Xbox Simultaneously, Final Fantasy 16 Producer Says

After having seen both Final Fantasy 16 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth failing to hit internal commercial expectations, Square Enix has confirmed that it’s looking to pivot away from its previously console exclusive-driven strategy, with the company now intending to release more multiplatform games going forward in order to maximize sales. In a recent interview with Japanese outlet 4Gamer, Naoki Yoshida – director and producer on Final Fantasy 14, and producer on Final Fantasy 16 – reiterated the same.

Yoshida touched on the upcoming Mistwalker-developed and Square Enix-published RPG Fantasian Neo Dimension, on which he is serving as a producer, citing it as an example of Square Enix’s strategy to release future titles on Xbox simultaneously.

“Of course, we want you to play it a lot on other platforms as well,” Yoshida said (translation via VGC). “This time, we will also release the Xbox Series X/S version at the same time.

“In the future, Square Enix titles will be released simultaneously on each platform more and more, but since this is close to the first release, we would like Xbox users to play it as well.”

Leaks have repeatedly insisted that an Xbox Series X/S version of Final Fantasy 16 is in development, while the action game’s own developers have also said multiple times that they intend to bring the game to Microsoft’s consoles. Whether we can also expect the same for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned Fantasian Neo Dimension is due out on December 5 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
