Snake Eater Hopes to be Faithful to the Original Without Feeling “Old and Clunky”

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is looking like a promising return to the limelight for the beloved stealth franchise, and though there are certainly some who would have preferred it to be a more radical departure from its source material, the fact that it is being billed as a faithful recreation of the original MGS3 is exactly why many are as excited for it as they are. That does not, however, mean that it will be an exact replica of the original game.

Speaking in a recent interview with Play magazine, series producer Noriaki Okamura explained that Konami’s goal with Metal Gear Solid Delta is to deliver an experience that feels like the original did back in the day, but without feeling like an aged version of it.

He said (via GamesRadar), “Our whole goal when we’re making this remake is to make sure that it still feels like the game that you played 20 years ago, but without making it feel like an old game.”

He added, “We didn’t want to make any unnecessary changes that would take people out of that experience. But at the same time, we need to make sure that when people play the game, it doesn’t feel old, like they’re playing an old game. [We’re] making sure that when you play this game, that it’s still on par with some of the more modern games in terms of controls and without taking you out of the experience.”

From enhanced visuals and a new control scheme to changes to the camera, new voice recordings from returning cast members, and more, Metal Gear Solid Delta is making changes to its source material in several ways, though it remains to be seen how extensive they will end up feeling cumulatively.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game doesn’t yet have a release date.
